Tips on Choosing a PMP Prep Course

A colleague asked me, “I want to be PMP (Project Management Professional) certified in six months. How do I go about preparing the PMP exam?” My answer is, “Take a prep course.”

PMP prep courses can range from traditional classroom training to a prep course in a book. It really depends on your learning style, your budget and your time.

I took a prep course offered by www.iil.com, The Project Management Certification Program: The Kerzner Approach to Project Management Excellence. It’s a classroom training course. I had plenty of opportunities to ask questions to the instructors and to learn from other students’ questions. I passed the PMP exam in four months after completing the course and after studying and re-studying the materials provided by the course.

Some of my PM colleagues have successfully passed the PMP exam by using PMP Exam Prep, 7th Edition, Rita’sCourse in a Book for Passing the PMP Exam. You can study this guide anytime and anywhere. However, you must be extremely motivated and disciplined to get through the course on your own time. My suggestion is to set up a study plan, to give yourself a deadline to complete the course, and to give yourself a deadline to take the PMP exam.

Happy studying!
