5 Lessons from Felix Baumgartner

Like millions of people around the world, I watched the skydive from space as it was happening. It was one of the most amazing event that I have ever seen. I started to read more about Felix and his audacious project. There are 5 important lessons that we can learn from Felix’s daring jump.

1. Dream Big

If you’re gonna dream, dream big. Felix wanted to do something that no other human has done before. He wanted to jump from space and break the sound barrier. This is what I call a BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal). BHAGs get us excited and inspired us to push ourselves beyond our comfort zone. If you are currently making an average salary at the moment, aim to make 25% or more on your next job.

2. Make a Plan

It took Felix and his team more than 5 years of intense planning for his jump from space. Every possible scenarios were discussed and rehearsed so that there were no surprises that can jeapordize the mission. Having a plan is the crucial step that you must not overlook. With a plan, you are more likely to succeed. Success in career requires planning in order for you to reach your goals. Failing to plan is planning to fail.

3. Get Help

Obiviously any endeavor this massive requires the help and support of hundreds of people. He had some of the best people in the world to help him bring his dream into reality. He also had a mentor in the form of Joe Kittinger that he trusted. In your career, you will need a few key people to help you achieve your career success. You job is to seek out these people and ask for their help.

4. Stay Focus

Without the focus and determination that Felix exhibited, he would have never pulled off this stunt let alone get it off the ground. How many people can stick to their dream for at least 5 years as Felix have demonstrated? Dozens of things could have derailed Felix from pursuing this goal. But he stuck to his guns and never let other things distract him from his project. In your career, you will need to stay focus on your goals to reach the top of your field.

5. Just Do It

There are two types of people. The spectators and the doers. The doers like Felix Baumgartner electrified the world and inspire us with their achievements. Successful people are action-oriented and make things happen. The spectators watch their lives pass by. In order to bring your dream into reality, you must take action. Do someting everyday to move you closer to your career goals. In today’s competitive world, if you are standing still, you are actually falling behind.
