When it comes to finding a job it can be a stressful experience. Experts say it may take 10 months to find a decent job, and it can be a frustrating process. Those who need to pay bills and support a family do not have 10 months of little to no income and it can provide plenty of hardship. Hard as it may be, it is necessary to stay positive. Having a negative attitude will affect overall mood which many people can see through a person’s attitude, especially employers. It is also important to expand your horizon and apply to jobs that are not as familiar. Being flexible will open doors and could lead to an entirely new career path. You should do something everyday to move your job search forward. Momentum is the key. It could be as simple as sending your resume to a new job requirement, following up with a recruiter that submitted your resume to their client or making a new connection on LinkedIn. The key is to make sure that your activities are paying off. Don’t just do something to keep busy. There are only a limited amount of time that you can devote to your job search everyday. You need to think through the top five critical success factors that will make a big difference in your job search. Once you have narrow down the top 5 activities you need to do everyday, just do it!

2. Change your attitude

Almost no one likes to look for a job. I think some of the reasons why we don’t like to look for a job is because we are not good at it, we hate change and uncertainty, and we don’t like rejections. If this is attitude, then it will be more difficult to land a job quickly. I recommend you turn your job search into a game and have some fun with it. Turn a negative life event into something positive. You will be amazed with the results that you can achieve.

3. Stay positive

It is very important to remain positive during your job search. The longer you have been out of work, the harder it will be to stay positive. But having a positive attitude is a choice that you can make everyday. It is easy to be depressed and discouraged when you just lost your job and looking for a new one. It is not only important to update your contact information on a regular basis, but to always keep your resume updated at all times. 3.      Not Being Formal Enough

Even within the online realm, it is very important to keep a certain formality with all prospective employers and/or co-workers. 4 Qualities Employers are Looking For in a New Employee

When you’re in the market for a new job there are certain qualities that employers will be looking for that are very important. These assets and abilities will make you stand out in their eyes and, if you lack them, make you stand out even further but in a negative way.  What are these qualities?  That’s a very smart question so let’s take a look at them.

Of course the main quality that every employer is seeking is someone that can do the job. If you can demonstrate to an employer that you have the skills and know-how necessary to perform the job you are applying for they will of course be more apt to hire you once your interview process is over.  This may seem a bit obvious but the reality is that many people apply for jobs that they aren’t qualified to do and, if that’s you, you may need to reconsider which jobs you will apply for.

That being said, being able to do the job well is also important.  Let’s face it, there are probably a lot of people that have the same qualifications as you and the same skills but won’t be able to do the job as well as you can for various reasons.  When entering any interview make sure you have some examples of how you not only can do the job but will do it better, faster, and/or more efficiently that the rest. Show your new boss that you won’t just be a replacement but an upgrade.

Being able to ‘fit in’ at your new workplace is definitely something that an employer will be looking for when they are evaluating you. If, for example, you’re a pushy, opinionated loud-mouth who lets people know what you’re thinking no matter the toes you step on you might not fit in with a group of laid back guys and gals who like having a stress-free work environment. Finally there’s the value that you add to the organization.  If you not only do your job well but are reliable, dependable and a leader your new employer will see you as not just an employee but an asset. If you can turn yourself into an asset there are few employers who won’t hire you.
